SOLUTION
“The environment makes up everything around us, including where we live, what we eat, the air we breathe, and the water we drink” (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], n.d.-c). During my Community and Environment Assessment for Victorville, California, I learned that my neighborhood is a mix of fast-paced and slow-paced living. Many adults and school-age children were out and about when I was there, but I didn’t see as many vulnerable groups, like older adults, people with disabilities, or people who were homeless. There are clinics, pharmacies, and dentist offices regarding health resources. However, it seemed like there were not enough mental health services, drug treatment centers, or shelters for the homeless. This is related to my practicum topic, which is HIV/AIDS, because these underserved groups often have the most challenging time getting care, education, and resources. This can make it even harder to fix health disparities.
